Bowazon Build Suggestions for HC

I haven't played since 1.09 and just fired D2 back up again. Can someone suggest a Bowazon build that will be good for HC and can run with mediocre gear? I've got one char geared up who will hopefully MF me some good gear but for now let's assume average type stuff.

Thanks for your help!|||fishy zon is what you want. look here.|||Quote:

I'm actually using his Necro build right now. I'll give it a better read in a bit but I noticed that ones a hybrid build using Javs as well, do you have any pure Bow builds or is it not a great build for HC? I won't be too concerned about MF with her, just mostly questing and playing the game as I don't have a /f list to help me through various parts.|||physical based bowazons typically need at the very least a good bow, fire bow skills have traditionally sucked beyond use (though 1.13 gives a little hope), and neither physical nor cold based bowas really need full skill placement to be effective. that's why night fish's guide suggests lightning skills to complement the cold bow skills.

a cold/physical build would be very good and useful for HC, but i'd still prefer (personally) the lightning skills as a complement over physical bow if you're going with "mediocre" gear. if you have a good (good is subjective ofc) bow, cold/physical is still possible. what bow are you going to use do you have any in mind, perhaps already have mf'd?

my list of budget bows goes like this:

witchwild string (possibly upped)

harmony in an elite bow

buriza (oldie but a goodie particularly with phys/cold build)

lycander's

upped riphook (only messed with this one, never truly took put it to the test)

there are many others that work, but those are the ones i have personal experience with and can attest to the power of. leads to another question, have you looked at what's changed in the past few patches? i suggest you give this guide a read.

ps. i would suggest that since you're hardcore to go with at least maxed freezing arrow and possibly it's damage synergy, cold arrow. the safety frozen enemies cannot be overlooked.|||I don't really have an end game bow in mind right now no, kinda looking to pick one that suits the build I end up with.

I could afford a Eagle or WF via trade right now if I needed to so any of the bows below that would be attainable more than likely. As for runewords I'm an Ohm away from Faith. I'm a Ko away from Harmony or Melody. I have the runes for Silence if that works well.

Perhaps my definition of mediocre is a little off...maybe I can get a decent bow. Again, the time off means I'm not up on all the best bows. Back when I played my Zon cleaned up in HC with her Buriza and GA/MS but I don't think GA works the same way now does it. WF/Eagle were the top bows back then for the most part and very tough to trade for, now the values seem way lower but I assume that's because runewords have made them less useful.|||WF is the best bow for many bowazon builds, its in no way a "mediocre" bow, even if its substantially cheaper than Faith. WF+Atma's on a Strafer is a very safe way to go.|||ah, if you're near faith, then go with it and make any bowa you want . or you can go with WF. neither of those is mediocre by any means.

i do love silence. the sheer power of faith and wf is not there, but it has very nice mods. i have made one myself and if you're worried about keeping your res high, i'd totally recommend it. it even has 2skills that will help out FA. it is probably the best safe bow in the game. if you go with it, make strafe a big part of your skill set as the monster's flee and hit blinds target will go off constantly.|||Quote:

So given I can probably land any of the Unique bows, and might have a chance at making a Faith(or other runeword) bow a little down the line a pure Bowazon seems a little more reasonable build.

Are there any specific guides you'd recommend? You said Fire skills are useless, has anyone done much with Immolation now that it's been improved with the new patch?|||There's respec now, so build for the bows you have now. I'd imagine a Strafe/FA build is the safest for a pure bowie in HC. The guides are all stickied.|||Quote:

Immolation arrow has that nasty timer on it. While it's upped in damage, a fast bow with explosive arrow can shoot 3 or 4 times in the time it takes you to fire 1 immo arrow, so the boost doesn't work really. As long as explosive arrow does 1/4th the damage that immo arrow does, explosive arrows are better.

Fire skills aren't really bad, they're just the worst of the 3 skillpaths. People use physical path (MS/strafe) for leeching and cold for crowd control, so fire gets forgotten...

Mageazons (cold/fire) are still possible, had one last season that did quite good. Problem with this build is the low physical damage, which means life- and manaleech doesn't work very effectively, which in turn means you need another way to fill your bulbs (phoenix rw with its redemption aura, or insight prayer merc). Going the insight prayer merc way, any fast bow will do (damage comes from skills, no leech needed), and it's probably the only decent way to build an untwinked pure bowazon. Still, Nightfish's build would probably be easier than a full magezon untwinked.
