Spec advice/opinions

[:1]Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster.

I was just getting back into D2 after a looooooooooooong hiatus, and have absolutely no idea whats hot or not. I've looked through lots of the threads here, the guides and what not, but a lot of the stuff is nice, but I was looking for more of a what's hot now type thing.

I used to do a javazon (are they still called that anymore?) and I have a fa-zon, I guess those are Icemaidens now? Anyways, I loved both of those, and I wasn't really a fan of multi/strafe.

So, of the two, javazon/furyzon/whatever (lightningpew? ) its called and icemaiden, which works more for someone starting over from total scratch? Meaning I have nothing, no wealth, no items to trade, de nada. I really like the idea of a fa/immo build, but I've read a lot of "Don't do it if you don't have gear!" stuff, so I'm very hesitant. I'm not super hung up on soloing ubers or anything, just a little mfing when my friends aren't around.

Ideas? Opinions? I appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks. |||welcome to the forums . you are in luck, one of the best untwinked (no items except what you find) amazon builds is a mix of the two you mentioned, a fury/fa zon (aka fishyzon). take a look at this guide and if you have more questions, ask away.|||Hey, thanks! And thanks for the reply.

So, even though it is from 2006, thats still a good build? That was my concern looking at all the guides. I had no idea what was still good, and what wasn't.|||where are you going? pvp or pvm?|||PvM. Mostly with friends, with a little solo MF.|||it's still valid. since he's not telling you what specific gear to get, you dont have to worry much about the improvements that have been made item wise since then. obviously you'll want torch/anni if you can, then just put on as many +skills as you can get. get a decent amount of pierce either through the skill or through the use of razortail. insight is great on a merc for this build, i dont believe he mentioned that.

it's been a while since i've read it, but the tactics and basic outline of the build are still as relevant today as when it was originally made.|||playing pvm I like java Fury/Charged strike ama with grifon/thunders/faceted armor very much, it kills in 8ppl game everything that not immune so fast. But if she gets infinity merc it will be incredible.|||Quote:

If you dont mind me asking here, what is "torch/anni"? I want to say that anni is an amulet, but I might be confusing it with something else.|||Quote:

But I think the op just started playing again so its not always going to be easy even getting an infinity for the merc. Faceted armor I would totally not prefer because your zon needs resist. Even coh would work fine on a java zon.|||Hey, thanks for all the feedback. Initially it will be hard to get nice stuff, but I'm hoping that once me and my buds get goin real good, we'll start finding useful stuff. But for now, I've started towards the lf/fa build, but I feel absolutely useless right now.

Festing - the good old days

[:1]I was curious as to whether people still did this or not.

Back in the day (I bought D2 at release), before LoD and runewords, we used to do what is called festing. It consisted of 6 speedfreak stafe/multi zons, 1 conc pally (the proto hammerdin before they became popular or noted for their hammer attack), and either a jabazon or fanat/zealot to tank.

Anyone still do this?|||never heard of it.|||There's not that many 8p teams that play together in a planned manner like that, and since 1.10 there's a next delay on strafe/multi so the team you describe wouldn't really be a good idea today. As such, nope, I think rather I'm safe in claiming that no one does "festing" anymore.

Strafe next delay info:

http://diablo.incgamers.com/forums/s...d.php?t=146666|||I know about the next delay info. The festing idea was behind building up the highest damage possible for the zons to clear with the quickness. And it wasn't really 8-player teams. Instead, there was a channel where people got games together on the fly. We even did it was 3-4 players.|||As clear from my post above I've never heard the term before either, just like CDM, and with your second post now I can no longer quite guess what the term really entails.

If it isn't a specific 8p team as described in your first post, but instead any kind of team which focuses on powering up a bowzon ... then in that case I'd say yes, that is still the focus on some teams. However, have never heard anything about any channels where people meet up for the sake of specifically forming those types of teams.

Best Bow Combo for PvM?

[:1]So I'm thinking about converting my PvP Zon to a PvM Strafezon. Only question I have is which bow is best for PvM? Some immediately say faith is a must use but wouldn't it be better to slap faith on a Merc and use a different bow yourself? There are a few other bows that seem rather appealing to me.

I want to be able to solo anything in hell without any hassle. Cost isn't really any issue since I already have amazing gear. Planning on putting just enough points into STR and DEX to use my gear and pouring the rest into vit while using resist all small charms to increase long term survivability. I'm just not a fan of the all DEX glass cannon builds.|||Faith is not going to be the best bow for you, you are right there, but it is a good help on the merc.

Windforce is a great bow, you really can't go wrong with it.

I have also used a "Brand" RW bow, it is a little pricey but is really nice.

"Ice" is a great bow also, but probably not ideal for strafe.

And you could always make a BoTD bow, they are very nice as well.|||as someone who's used BoTD bow, i can honestly say it's more bark than bite. it's a waste of resources to any but the most dedicated bow collector (which is why i made and played with one).|||For a strafer, my choice is Windforce. Cant beat it |||yeah, windforce + pride merc massive strafe damage, though if you want faster area clearing a multishot build does that, hence more contest for top dps slot|||Well after some heavy testing I've decided to stick with Brand. Picked a P one up along with a P Faith Crusader for my merc. I have Windforce on switch just in case I feel like using it.

I also decided to go glass cannon again and put just enough points into Strength for my gear. I poured the rest into dex and maxed Strafe Penetrate Valkyrie and Crit Strike

Currently Using...

120/45 30 FRW Circlet

P Brand GMB / P Windforce

P Dusk Fortitude

Laying Of Hands

P Ravenfrost

P BK Ring

Nos Coil (Thinking about switching this for razortail)

Atmas Scarab

War Travs

19/20/9 Anni

P Zon Torch

Mercs Using...

P Faith Crusader

Eth Bugged AP Fort

Guilliames Face (Trying to get a 120/45 Circ or Bone Visage)

I mostly just run chaos a lot and brand+laying of hands works very well. I absolutely love the bone spear fireworks with strafe.|||Nice choice, I will make a brand again someday, it's an awesome bow.

That gear sounds a little bit too good to be true.|||Oh trust me it cost me a pretty penny to get all the gear for it. I'm very happy with the way it turned out though. I don't care what people say Brand > All other bows.|||Switch the belt for Razortail. And dump that BK ring for a rare LL/dex/str/AR/dam ring instead.|||while ur at it, get perfect LoH

if u like ctcs try dream or delirium on ur merc

besides that, the bk doesnt really fit in the equip. get one like krem said, min/dex/leach/life

Help with AMAZONS :O

[:1]well i've never made an amazon before... all my toons are hammerdins/ww barbs/bone necros...

so i need help from you people on an AMAZON build.

now i know there are different classes and what not... but im looking for the BEST PvM (hell baal runs/hell chaos runs) solo toon.

i want to stick to a Bowazon (preferably), but if a Javazon is better, i will make a javazon.

so please... the info i need:

what type of bowazon? strafe or multi?

what gear on my javazon?

what gear on my bowazon?

stat/skill point distribution for it?

budget: im looking to spend a about 40-90 Hr's on my amazon build. (Ber/jah's)...

but please put items in this order: BEST/Most commonly used/epic welfare

because i dont want to spend a week trying to buy that GG circlet >:O

also a plus... if you could post the price's of the items next to the items would be great. example: less than 1 hr, 1 hr, 2-3 hrs etc etc...|||I'm not gonna write a guide for you

You're going to want either the Fishyzon (Lightning Fury plus Frozen Arrow) or just a plain lightning LF/Charged Strike zon with enough -res to take care of broken immunes effectively. I can't really attest to the effectiveness of the latter as I've never found a Griffon's.

Good Fishy gear would look something like this:

- Griff's or Nightwing's (5/5 light/ice facet). A +2 zon circlet with FRW could also work really well if not going for Enigma, especially if you can get 2 facets in it. Valkyrie Wing or Shako if you're feeling cheap.

- Mara's or maybe Highlords (+1, IAS, light res). I actually switched to Crescent Moon because its mana leech allowed me to spam so much more effectively that the damage loss wasn't a problem.

- I like CoH but depending on what/how you run Enigma will be better. You need some res from somewhere though.

- +2 Jav gloves with 20 IAS and mana leech

- 2x SoJ or SoJ/mana leech

- Razortail belt

- War Travs

- Titan's/Spirit on the jav switch

- I prefer Faith (+3 Matriarchal Bow) over Ice on the bow switch

- Standard charms and a couple of Jav skillers...

And of course the Infi/Fort/Andy's merc.|||the above listed are good, here is another good one. it is my personal favorite build for all of D2, not just Amazons.

Bowazon needs help killing bosses

[:1]I've built a physical damage bowazon using Faith, Fortitude, and Dream. I wanted to use Multi-Arrow instead of Strafe (I don't like the locking it does) and then Guided Arrow to kill bosses.

Multi-Arrow accomplishes what I want it to: to kill large mobs a screen away after several volleys.

Unfortunately, Guided Arrow is severely lacking as anti act boss skill. I just came back from a long hiatus and forget/didn't realize they "fixed" Guided Arrow + Pierce.

So now my issue is, what bowazon skill is best for killing bosses given my current gear loadout. Strafe? Immolation Arrow? Frozen Arrow?|||I'm not a bowa expert so I'm not sure how most do it, but I've always kept Kelpie on switch just to disable them, then my merc does most of the work with CB while I spam away with GA.

Reaper's/Guillaume's Face is probably the best combo for him.|||no choices actually: strafe + Crushing blow + AD +much ar:

faith

forti

gaint skull +2 ias/ed *** / guliame face

razortail

craft gloves ias +crusing blow

gore rider

atma's

ravenfrost + rare/craft leech ar+dmg rings

swap - deamon limb

merc with might aura|||Strafe + CB and Amplify Damage.|||What is the justification of strafe? No autohit, lower DPS than guided(effectively 7 fpa~ strafe vs 7 fpa guided unless using a wf&pride setup due to nextdelay), danger of lock.

Same thing with CB: gores and guillaumes give barely any if even negative difference over 45/120 and travs against bosses(with the exception of ball & ubers due to their far larger life) and are unoptimal against bowazons specialty, packs of regular creeps.|||watch my video here where I killed all ubers and what items I have, and all will be clear for you.|||Bowazons just aren't that great at killing bosses. You'll have to rely on your merc a lot. Give him some CB gear and possibly some slow gear as well. Not fast but it will get the job done.|||Argh! Baal is so annoying if your merc isn't equiped right. Baal and Baal Clone always chase you around instead. That would make the ancients annoying as well.|||Quote:

I used to aim my guided arrow at the end of the bridge, with Baal just off screen, so that I could hit him and not quite activate him. Once I got his attention, running and gunning when low on health/mana worked best. It would've been much easier, if I had a decent merc at the time.|||Quote:

I try that, but he ends up always cloning himself and that thing starts hovering towards you to no end in sight.

I find amazons to be frustrating ...

[:1]All,

I am sure I am the only one on this sub forum who feels this way, seeing as this is the Amazon forum and all. But the Amazon skills that I have always loved are the terrible ones.

My favorite skills, in terms of the concept and/or the animations, are: Fend, Magic Arrow, Guided Arrow, Explosive Arrow, and Immolation Arrow. And yet apparently these are the really crappy skills for Amazons. I also think Daggerzons are cool.

But I find it eternally frustrating that the Amazon skills I like are crap and/or pointless to max, and the ones I generally hate (Strafe, Freezing Arrow, Lightning Fury) are the go-to skills for the class. I also find sinking points into the Valkyrie to be sort of tedious, as well as some of the passives, though I see the value.

Are there any other hidden gems in the Amazon tree? Can one make a viable hell-capable Amazon that does NOT use Strafe, Freezing Arrow, Lightning Fury and Multi-shot? I actually find Multi-shot to be ... boring but it doesn't irritate me. But I guess what I'm wondering is, are there any hell capable builds that dont use the skills that bore me or irritate me?

Oh well. I've got a Fire/Shock Bow Paladin I'm working on who meets some of my desires to set things on fire with a bow. But I'd love to know about any hidden gems in the Amazon tree that I'm overlooking.

Thanks!|||Pvm? use charged strike -- the most overpowered skill in the game, can reach ~ 200k light dmg per hit.|||Well the skill planner says it only does about 2k and that is with all the synergies maxed and +5 skills. Unless I'm confused.

I think what I might do is simply make an amazon using an underpowered skill combo and simply enjoy it, let it stall when it stalls, and call it done. I would love to do an amazon with:

20 Fire Arrow

20 Explosive Arrow

20 Guided Arrow

20 Valkyrie

1 in each passive (and Razortail for a belt)

To me that' simply be fun. I know that maxing Guided only adds 95% damage. *Sniff* ... but I like maxing the skills I use.

I also kinda want to make a Magic Arrow 20 character.

Anyway, I appreciate any replies. Though I'm not really sure what replies I'm looking for.

Thanks!|||Quote:

Well the skill planner says it only does about 2k and that is with all the synergies maxed and +5 skills. Unless I'm confused.

2k per bolt released. That is, 16k to a target large enough to suck up all the bolts, 8k average. With +5 skills and no facets. A CS zon with pretty inexpensive gear does more like 5k & 9 bolts: 22.5k damage average at an easy 9 frames per attack. Very good/pvp/professional dclone killer gear can do far far more damage.

A jabber zon would be neat with good enough gear.|||I have made both a Guided Arrow Zon and a Magic Arrow Zon and have loved playing them. In particular, Magic Arrow is an under-rated skill -if it were not available on Witchwild String at Level 21 I think it would get more attention. Both a GA zon and an MA zon feel like a "stripped down bowazon" in gameplay.

Magic Arrow is like strafe -it needs the most physical damage you can get on a bow -for me that was a Goldstrike Arch, because I have never found a Windforce -and I don't use rune word mod (I am a single player). IAS is important, of course. Put as much as you can into Dex, and max out MA, Valk and go as high as is prudent in CS, Pierce and penetrate. Sprinkle a couple of points in DAE, look for + skills items to increase the level of magic arrow, IAS modifiers and use a Might Merc. I kept a Skystrike on switch to help out with PIs. Very simple to play -but I really enjoyed my magic arrowzon. Unfortunately, she did bog down in A4 Hell. Concentrating on as much on-bow physical damage and +min/max Damage as possible is the key to getting her through Hell difficulty.

With Guided Arrow, there is no investment in Penetrate or Pierce, creating a surplus of skill points. So people tend to drift away from the concept of a pure Guided Arrow-zon and invest in an elemental damage skill. Inevitably, the GA skill becomes secondary to the elemental damage skills.

I have tried a pure GA-zon, maxing GA, and all other points in passive skills (Valk, CS, DAE, Decoy). PIs are handled by using a bow (perhaps on switch) with elemental damage (Kuko, Skystrike or a six socket bow with PGEMs or runes). IAS is critical to a GA-zon and knockback is an attribute worth considering. GA is quite underpowered, though, so you really need to get creative with your equipment and with switching bows for different monsters.

Other skills. I like the Poison and Plague Javelin skills as a tandem (they are synergies for each other). They are Area-of Effect skills and far more powerful than MA and GA, but require the investment of 30-40 skill points to be effective in the end game -and your zon will still need a second type of damage to deal with Poison Immunes. (loading elemental damage on your javelin is not an effective strategy.) But these skills are worth considering.

Have fun!|||Check out the build guide sticky. There are several builds in there that may interest you. The guys who answered your post are correct about Charged Strike. Check Jek's Lightning guide for some math and other interesting posts on lightning skills. Some of it may seem a little dated but I do not recall any new nerfs to any lightning skills in the past couple of years.|||Thanks for the replies everyone!|||Checkout flayed one's Melee Amazon's guide if you like the fend skill, I played one this ladder who didnt have any problem soloing the entire game, also tried some bertristram and managed to get a couple of torches using this build, not as efficent as a smiter though.|||Cool. As a single player mode kind of guy, I've never even concerned myself with what the ubers are or how to do them or what those torches are about that I hear people mentioning. I assume they can't be soloed, so I don't worry about it.

But maybe I'll re-visit Fend. I swore I read it was severely bugged.|||Yes, it's bugged, but if you don't put points in dodge, avoid and evade the bug don't come in to play.

Bowazon setup/inventory...

[:1]I am making one but still not sure about weapon/merc... I wanna use it for cows and maybe pvp... What would be the best dmg/speed wise?

Faith gmb on hero and might merc with pride? Wf on hero and faith ot merc?

I am windforce fan but that faith...is it that good or just overrated?

About inventory - mix max/ar/life and poison/life charms?|||pvp - gc 10maxdmg 80ar 7frw / sc 3maxdmg 20ar 3frw. reach 170+frw rest 3/20/20 scs.

pvm - gc 10-14maxdmg +ar+hp / sc 3maxdmg 20ar 20hp, rest reists if need. I prefer gmb +forti+gaintskull+atma+goreriders +pride merk|||i ve triedboth setups, deicide pretty quick to sell my windforce and mercfaith casue i just found a1 merc not to follow me as i wanted and it sucked when i didnt have fana, a2 merc seems to have a wieder area of effect for his auras and even without his auras i would kill faster then without the fana aura, and shes good for pvp wich windforce isn't

with forty and eth cv (pride) 20 conc and might aura he does 1190 - 4493 dmg|||I am no PvPer, at all. But wouldn't a might merc still be best for the overall damage increase? After all, the quicker t=your enemy is dead the better, right? It is for PvM.

Act 1 mercs do have a little tendency to run right into the fray in PvM. Act 2 are nice until you start to get duel resist monsters. Act 3 have always been the best. They all have some pathfinding issues but act 1 seems worst.|||act3 the best??? with what equipment? really curious about that, thnx |||Quote:

act3 the best??? with what equipment? really curious about that, thnx

for a bowa prolly with last wish weapon for might aura or azurewrath/lawbringer for sanctuary aura. spirit shield, vipermagi and either eth shako or dream (for the ctc confuse when struck) - but thats just me guessing

Question from a Newbie

[:1]Hey, I'm a new player and I have a question about making a Javelin Amazon. I see a lot of people recommending the Titan's Revenge javelins, and they definitely look awesome, but what happens when you throw them all? Does the weapon just disappear? How do you keep going? Everything I have read says you can only replenish javelins with javelins of the exact same type. Does that mean every time I throw some Titans I somehow have to find more titans before I can use them again? If so, that sucks. Are there any javelins that never run out? I want to make a javazon but it is hard enough to find good javelins and if I have to somehow keep finding them after every hour or so of play, I think I'll pass.|||Titan's Revenger

+150-200% Enhanced Damage (varies)

Adds 25-50 Damage

+2 To Amazon Skill Levels

5-9% Life Stolen Per Hit (varies)

+30% Faster Run/Walk

+20 To Strength

+20 To Dexterity

Replenishes Quantity [1 in 3 sec.]

Increased Stack Size [60]

+2 To Javelin and Spear Skills (Amazon Only)

They replenish, and you can also repair them to full durability (stack size) if you ever run low. You don't have to find new Titans if you want to keep throwing.|||But you CAN run out. Then you have to go repair. You need to keep an eye on the quantity you have left.|||Quote:

the weapon replenishes in stack size. so they will keep spawning for you. that is why it is best to buy them in ethreal since they replenish.|||Ethereal ones can not be repaired, so if you run out of javelins, you will have to wait for the Titan's Revenge to repair. It's truly annoying in pvm.|||Quote:

How to kill uber Mephisto?

[:1]Hi guys. I am visiting this sites for about an year, and found very much useful info for amazones, however I stuck with 1 question, that cannot find here, thats why I decided to register and ask you, hope you help me

I made bowazon for Uber tristam challenge. Currently I am able to kill all bosses in solo exept uber Meph.

specs:

ama 87lvl

skills:

strafe - 20

GA - 20

critical - 20

penetrate - 20

pierce - 1

valkir -1

avoid/evaid/dodge - 5

stats:

no vita

no energy

20 to str to equip forty

all in dex ~ 500-520

equip:

bow - wrath MB and windforce

armor - fortitude arhon plate

helm - guliame face +jewel 15ias

gloves - LoH / knockback +20ias craft

belt - nosferatu

boots - gore riders

amul - highlord wrath

rings - raven frost / lleech dex alres

charms:

anih + torch

3 GC - 10max dmg +70ar

10 sc 175poisn dmg +res/hp/frw

rest - sc fire/ligth resists

finally I have: 50fire res/10cold res/80light res/70 poisn res

my merc:

2 act might aura

helm - andariel

armor - shaftstop + UM

weap: eth tresher obedience

stats screen with wrath shows:

3900 - GA dmg

2900 - strafe dmg

atack rating after prebuff ~ 28000

ok I go:

prebuff:

I have 53lvl bo barb and 54lvl enchant sorc. I created game and lead them into, I prebuff bo and ench on ama, merc and valkiry, after eqipping my valk 10lvl. , after prebuff, they are out from the game. it needs for 1ppl game.

finally my life is about 1.2k, merc 6k life.

1. izual - this is very easy, the bow - wrath, izual always under decripify curse, my merc and valkir hold him. izual dies in 30-40secs.

2. duriel - the same as izual, very easy. just about 40-50 secs with wrath.

3. lilith - I want to say that it is the most difficult boss among 3. equip the same with Wrath MB. firstly I killed all mobs near lilith so my strafe hits only Lilith with all arrows. her poisn dmg and melee atack are very strong. my valk dies after 1 hit. so you need to be very attentive, my merc holds 3 melee hits of andy, the key here is cast decripify from wrath, If my merc come to llilth under decr course then he establish stands and I from distance do strafe, I need to give my merc full rej pots every 15-20seconds, otherwise he dies. so lilith dies in 80-90 secs if my merc holds Her. but if merc come to her not under decr. curse she can kill him in 1-2 hits+poisn dmg. so I had to resuret merc several times.

Uber trist:

fisrtly I entered into TP and separates all bosses on the map, so not to face 2 or 3 at the same time, also I precast Fade from trachery for resists.

1. diablo: I changed wrath with windforce, because wrath overrides lifetap with decr. and put on switch wand with life tap charges. Life tap is more useful than decripfy here. also I changed gloves from craft to LoH

The key here is cast life tap and then using GA lock on diablo, strafe is useless here because it hits minions more than Diablo, I cast life tap and lock GA on Diablo, the fight was about 2-3 minutes, and I killed him, I recast valk and decoy so it put out minoins from diablo and me so I can hit him directly.

2. baal: more easier than diablo, he does no summons anythingm and I was able to kill him even using Wrath. I used strafe here.

So Finally Uber Meph, it is so dificult, my merc dies in seconds an his summons messed me, he is very fast, and I cannot stop him in distanse, even casting life tap on him does not help, so I still cannot find a key to him.

I need your assistanse here, may be I need to change equip fro him, I heard about face of horror, but not tested it yet.

I know that I need to rise much my resists.

But I need strategy against him and might be I need to put more stats in life or put skills in valkiry, or prebuff 50+lvl valkiry maybe, so any thought and criticism are welcome|||what i thought worked best on him was:

1) get rid of minions with strafe + monsters flee. i'd also go with razortail so that you can reach the monsters in the back of a crowd with the flee.

2) use life tap as the curse of choice. i picked dracs, but i hear that marrow walks work well and the bone prison can help too (though i have my doubts about prison lasting very long).

3) fast hitting merc that casts life tap. for this i went with act 5 barb using last wish. i dumped resist items on him to help.

4) all else fails, have your resists capped out after conviction too and try to tank him with life tap up constantly. i'd also suggest using GA. since it doesnt rely on AR, it's much like smite.

5) dont make her a dex zon. i'd almost suggest going full vit or at least a mix. i'd also suggest if you're thinking you may have to tank to avoid getting D/A/E since they keep you from attacking and that can get you killed.

to help with 1 and 4, i pick a silence crusader bow. it has low(ish) damage, but it has many of the mods you need. i'd also squeeze crushing blow on somewhere. when i was contemplating a retry of trist i was thinking for meph i'd go with a kit like this:

~ias helm or res helm, whichever was most needed (knock back may be good to get here)

~highlords (res/ias), metal grid (more res/ar, but only if you hit a good ias break)

~silence crusader (it has monsers flee and blind which wont overwrite on tap on a boss, mana leech, some ias, and big big res)

~coh (or if my res was covered, duress)

~dracs

~raven

~razortail

~good rare ring covering holes like AR, Res, etc

~gores or goblin toes

you still need AR to hit the non bosses (GA those) so good ar charms, and resist charms to make up what you lack.

act 5 merc:

~arreat, kiras, ias helm

~last wish phase blade

~treachery

the idea behind this gear selection was much like a smiter, use an AR independent skill to apply crushing blow fast at the same time as you're getting full benefit for life tap. the zon also builds in crowd control and tries to do everything from a decent range. i'm sure that there's a way to do this toe to toe, but i dont know if that's wise. there are a few tankazon guides around the net.|||crawlingdeadman, thank you very much for the feedback.

ok, I will try to up new zon, with dex/vita combo.

1) as far as I understand you do strafe to flee minions firstly, right? once they out you do GA on meph?

2) I am thinking now about dracs, it would be better to have chance to cast life-tap than switching to wand and cast charges.

3) 5act merc and as a lastwish is not possible for me, I am playing on a server 1.12 version. there is no lastwish on the whole server even. I was rushing Hell Forge for 1-1.5 months to get Ber rune from 32 guls. to make Wrath. If you take a look at lastwish, you will see - it is - 3 Jah, It is absolutely unachievable for me, 1 Jah ~ 2-3 months of HF rushing. so very expansive in this case. I am looking at 2act merc with holyfreeze aura, with obidence for Crushing blow.

4) I am going to full my inventory with resistance charms to cover meph conviction.

5) I've got this point, will try combo. but as for D/A/E , if you rise up valkiry - then you need to put 1 skill in D/A/E , Are you suggesting not to go with valkiry?

Let's discuss silence, are you really tested it in tristram? is it realy worth there?

actually, interesting bow, BUT it can be done only in slowest bows (10 - base speed) so if you will equip highlord 20ias + gaint skull 2*15 ias jewels

+nosferatu 10ias = 80ias total - it is only 10frame GA speed on that bow - I would say - very slow. You need to flee monions fast and do damage to meph and proc crushing blow fast.

Coh - is not acceptable for me as well, it needs Ber.

Can you confirm that for killing meph "hit monster to flee" - is MUST? if so, then what do you think about this equip:

~faith MB

~fortitude

~highlords

~Face of Horror +15ias jewel

~dracs

~raven

~good rare ring

~gores

~nosferatus

in this case we will have:

max strafe speed

max GA speed

50% hit monster to flee

5% Chance To Cast Life Tap

15% crushing blow

45% deadly strike

70% critical strike

40% open wounds

50%+ pierce (put some skills into pierce)

more fast bow we gave = more frequently effects above will be applied.

What do you think about this?|||by the way, what do you think about Passion Bow ?

Passion

4 Socket Weapons Dol + Ort + Eld + Lem

+25% Increased Attack Speed

+160-210% Enhanced Damage (varies)

50-80% Bonus To Attack Rating (varies)

+75% Damage To Undead

+50 To Attack Rating Against Undead

Adds 1-50 Lightning Damage

+1 To Berserk

+1 To Zeal

Hit Blinds Target +10

Hit Causes Monster To Flee 25%

75% Extra Gold From Monsters

Level 3 Heart of Wolverine (12 Charges)

Passion Bow includes Hit Blinds Target and Hit Causes Monster To Flee and 25ias, so we can equip this:

~passion MB (-10 base speed)

~fortitude

~highlords

~Gaint skull with 2 ias jewels

~dracs

~raven

~good rare ring

~gores

~razortail

and still we wil have:

max strafe speed

8frame GA speed

25% hit monster to flee

5% Chance To Cast Life Tap

25% crushing blow

45% deadly strike

70% critical strike

40% open wounds

65%+ pierce (razor +skills )

knockback

this option is more preferable for me and does no require Faith which I cannot accept in the nearest time, because it requires Jah |||Maybe you are strictly bows only? Otherwise should go easy with CS? Very easy to reach 50-80k/s damage, and SS with Ptopaz kicks ***. offcourse he has tons of resists but -res can handle that i imagine. Or just jab him down with cb and life tap|||Charged strike and as Lighting damage does nothing to Meph because he is light immune, infinty will not work on him because meph conva is higher lvl. 110 res also cannot be broken by low resist course from necro wand.

As for Jab zone, it is another option, here I want to beat Meph using Bow only!|||finally I have: 50fire res/10cold res/80light res/70 poisn res

pretty sure you are never gonna beat meph with resists like those and only source of lifetap is a wand

prebuffing fade from the treachery runeword armor and switching to dracs would be a good place to start|||yeah I already going to stack enough resists for conva, fade prebuff I do every time |||any other ideas?|||I am back guys.

Finally I have done Uber Trist in solo with my bowazon. As you can see in my first post It took to me for about 2 weeks to find a key to uber meph.

It was very funny, I tried wrath, passion, windforce bows(not tried faith yet), but I could not kill meph even if I stack resists and prebuff fade, Meph killed me any way very fast.

It was continuing for a long time, until I decided to try harmony bow, just for fun, but how I was surprised when I killed andariel very easy with harmony. Then I opened Tristam, summoned Urdars from river of flame and killed all ubers 1 by 1.

It was very interesting but I killed Mephisto faster than others 2 ubers. The trick is what My Urdars surrounded him and I was able to shoot Meph from long distance so his conviction aura does not get me. I strafed him very easy, actually his summons were focusing on my urdars, but just few of them were spawning near me, but I killed them fast enough.

I will make a video next time i collect keys set.

below is my equip for UT:

Bow - Harmony MB 3bows 9ED

armor - fortitude

helm - guliame face + 15ias jewel / tiara with teleport charges for focusing urdars.

belt - nosferatu

boots - gore rider

gloves - LoH / draculs( dracs - only for meph)

amul - highlord

ring1 - raven frost

ring2 - craft 100ar 6lleech str hp mana

my inventory:

anih +torch

3 GC: 10maxdmg +ar

sc: resists /max dmg/ar / 175poisn dmg

1. Introduction

My account name is *TienJe on USWest, and I've had a zon in my PvP arsenal since early 1.09. I play legit characters, so I won't be considering hacked items in this guide. I'm always free to duel or to answer questions.

With the coming of 1.10 and the Enigma runeword, Zons became the prey in PvP. Zons cannot effectively function with the Enigma armor, as they need the damage and IAS to maintain good attack speed. Without teleport, they became the slowest of all characters, and with the other characters beginning to teleport, it was hard for the Zon to keep up. However, even in 1.11, the Zon stays at the top of the damage output ladder. Faith bow shooting at 7 FPA has one of the highest damages in the game. The task now is for the Zon to learn to dodge attacks and play the role of the prey. If the Zon is built correctly and under the hands of a good dueler, it is still very versatile and impressive. So, this hybrid zon seeks to combine the power of the faith bow with the protection and effectiveness of the one point wonders of the javelin tab.

2. Stat Allocation

Starting Stats

Strength- 20

Dexterity- 25

Vitality- 20

Energy- 15

Hit Points- 50

Stamina- 84

Mana- 15

Per level

Life +2

Stamina +1

Mana +1.5

Stat Bonuses

STR- adds damage for javelin attacks and allows for wearing equipment

DEX- adds arrow damage, adds attack rating, and allows for wearing equipment.

VIT- adds life

ENG- adds mana

1 Vitality point gives 3 Life

1 Vitality point gives 1 Stamina

1 Energy point gives 1.5 Mana

Placing Stats

Stat allocation for a Zon is very elemental to her success. Zons, in order to survive, must have very good damage output, as that is their strength; survivability is not the Zon’s forte. In order to have a high damage, points into Vitality will have to be skipped.

Thus, stat allocation for a Hybrid Zon is all about balancing the DEX/VIT ratio. Since this depends on your charm and equipment setups, make sure you pick your equipment and get your charms all situated with the right balance of life/FRW/FHR before placing stats. After spending the points into STR to wear all the equipment, aim for 1.4-1.5k life (including equipment and charms and not including Battle Orders), and then pump the rest into DEX.

There are also the glass cannon Zons, which go pure DEX, and the tank Zons, which go purely for VIT. I would choose glass cannon over the tank any day, but I still think a balanced build (~1.4k life) is the best bet.

And of course, no Energy, even though Multishot will suck your mana dry.|||3. Skills

Guided Arrow- shoots a homing fast arrow that deals physical damage.

Magic Arrow- shoots non-homing arrow that does not use arrows

Critical Strike- % chance for Deadly Strike (2x damage)

Penetrate- adds AR to attack

Pierce- adds % chance to have attacks pierce

Multishot- shoots multiple arrows out.

Strafe- shoots a quick succession of arrows at targets on screen

Jab- Fast melee attack with javelin

Lightning Bolt- throws a javelin of purely lightning damage

Lightning Fury- throws a physical javelin with exploding lightning bolts on impact

Decoy- non-mobile summon

Valkyrie- fighting melee summon that has dodges

Skill Allocation

Guided Arrow- 20

Critical Strike- 70% chance minimum

Penetrate- 1

Pierce- 1

Dodge- 55% minimum

Avoid- 65% minimum

Evade- 55% minimum

Strafe- 1

Jab- 1

Lightning Bolt- 1

Lightning Fury- 1/0

Decoy- 1

Valkyrie- 1

All other prereqs- 1

Multishot- all remaining points

Points are self-explanatory. Again, the Zon is all about balancing. Critical strike and the dodges all have diminishing returns, so it’s not a good idea to max them. However, pumping them to a high level is never a bad idea. Figure out your goal levels for those skills, and then use MS as a sponge to soak up all your remaining points. Javelin skills should be kept at 1. They are all one point wonders, getting most of the damage from the javelin itself, so subsequent points added do not add that much effectiveness.

Skill Notes and Explanations

Guided Arrow- This is your main damage skill. It will look for a target and seek it out. GA auto-targets at the point where your cursor is when you shoot it, so you still need to aim it. GA will home in on targets within ~7 yard radius from where you clicked. Since the GA won’t home in over the entire screen, make sure you know when to shoot GA from the corners of the screen and when to shoot them close to you to cover the most area.

Critical Strike- Critical strike stacks with Deadly strike % items, but they are calculated separately. The most you can get with CS + DS is 2x damage, so you can’t get 4x if both trigger. That means that if you have 50% CS and DS, your total effective %chance is 75%.

Penetrate- adds AR to attack. This is overlooked most of the time. With Penetrate + Fanaticism aura from Faith, MS will have a very good hit %.

Pierce- GA no longer will hit the target multiple times with pierce, but this skill is still useful for MS and the throwing skills.

All Dodges- these dodges make an Amazon what it is. These help Zons gain survivability without high life and high mobility. Dodge speed cannot be increased by FHR.

Multishot- Another main damage skill. The further your cursor is away from you when you shoot, the closer together the arrows will be. Its maximum range is about 2/3 that of Guided Arrow

Strafe- Strafe is auto targeting, and a great way to blocklock caster characters. It is actually the highest damage output skill for one target of all the bow skills, but it leaves you immobile while you fire and won’t hit running targets, so it’s not a good main attack. More of a situational thing.

Jab- Jab is uninterruptible. Makes Zons a melee threat. I have killed numerous barbarians just shift jabbing them while they whirl over me.

Lightning Bolt- Purely elemental. That means it cannot be blocked, and has 100% hit percent. With KB on your equip, LB will trigger KB 100% of the time, creating a nasty stun/KB lock.

Lightning Fury- Physical javelin. Has ITD effect. Much higher damage than LB, as physical resistance is capped at 50% instead of 75%-95% for lightning. This will also leach you back much life on summons, as Titans has a leach mod. 2-3 LF’s against a Druid’s bear will bring you back to full.

Decoy- will switch weapons when you switch. A true decoy. Because the decoy can be casted anywhere on the screen, it is also useful for covering you from melee. If you cast the Decoy right below your character so that the decoy covers your image up, any person trying to namelock you will namelock the decoy instead, serving the same purpose as casting TP’s over the zon.|||4. Equipment

Breakpoint Goals

FPA- 7 frame per attack. This is only achievable with Fanaticism aura from Faith bow. With Lvl 14 or 15 Fanaticism, Matriarchal Bow’s need 46 IAS, Grand Matron Bows/Hydra Bows need 92 IAS. If you use a WF, the max FPA is 8, which is achieved with 142 IAS.

FRW- 125 minimum on shield switch.

DR – 35+% DR on shield switch

Equipment Options

Fun time. There are countless options, but some work better than others. The Zon equipment setup depends completely on the bow choice, so pick that before you figure out the rest of your equipment. Again, I won’t be putting down the stats for the items because they are well known.

Bow

Faith Runeword – This bow is your best choice. Fanaticism helps you get 7 FPA and higher damage output than a Windforce. There’s really no other choice in 1.11. The only choice with this is whether you use a Matriarchal Bow or a Grand Matron Bow. MB’s are faster but do less damage. GMB’s do more damage, but require much more IAS to hit 7 FPA. Depending on your choice here, the rest of your gear will change drastically.

Windforce – This bow was the powerhouse for 1.08 and on, up until the introduction of the Faith runeword. The mods are unbeatable on this bow, but the only problem is that it is 1 whole frame slower than Faith can be, resulting in overall lower damage output.

Second weapon switch

Ethereal Titans- Pure and simple. Use it. It allows you to use all the javelin skills, along with giving you unbeatable mods.

Stormshield- Only choice for GMB users. Best shield for block/DR in the game. -15% req it to make it require less STR.

Jewelers Monarch of Deflecting (4 x 40 ED/15 IAS jewels)- This is for use for MB users that use CoA as their source of DR. This shield will help MB users maintain 9 frame javelin throw and will get them 4.5 frame jab, the fastest speed possible. The massive ED will make the javelin skills hurt substantially more.

Helms

120 ED/45 IAS + FRW/Life circlet- Great choice for a helm. The IAS helps hit 7fpa, and adds a lot of damage. The second mod is very important though, because if you don’t get FRW or life mod, there are better alternatives. You can also use a 2ama/life/frw + 2 soc helms. Those are very good options as well.

Giant Skull – Another good choice for a helm. You can get 2 sockets in this helm, meaning you can 80/30 IAS it. It gives massive +STR, and KB, which is essential for a Zon.

Shako- Shako adds a lot of life and mana and DR. Good option if you need life/mana or DR.

.08 Valk- Not that useful of a helm here, besides the fact that it looks funny/cool in a weird way. It functions like a 120/45/frw, but you don’t have the 120 ed.

Crown of Ages (40ED/15IAS jewel + Ber)- For a GMB/Fort user, the helm slot will be taken by a mandatory 45 IAS helm. However, if you use a MB setup, you may be able to use this helm for DR, opening up your shield to something other than a Stormshield.

Ammy

Cat’s Eye- The main ammy for most Zons. +DEX adds lots of damage, FRW and IAS are all very useful.

Highlord’s- This ammy is often overlooked. The +1 skills is very useful, along with the LR. Deadly strike actually helps a lot, despite common belief. HL actually has very comparable damage increase to Cat’s Eye, thanks to the +1 skills and added lightning damage.

Armor

160/60/life armor- Pretty simple why this is a good armor. Damage + IAS + life. Second only to a Fortitude, if your setup allows for that.

Fortitude- This armor adds more damage than 160/60, but it lacks much IAS. If you are able to use Fort and still have 7 FPA, it is recommended, because of the +resistances, +life, and especially because chilling armor is bugged.

Gloves

Crafted IAS/KB gloves/+passives- Best choice here. There are a few other combinations and options, but usually what you need is pretty clear depending on the IAS on your other gear. Just make sure you have KB somewhere on your amazon, either in the gloves or in the Giant Skull.

Others- Because the Zon gear is so IAS dependent, there won’t be much room for wiggle here. However, if you use a MB bow setup, there may be room for Bloodfists or +STAT gloves.

Belt

Verdungo’s- Best choice here. Tons of life, FHR, 15%dr will take you to 50% total DR with SS, and the life rep helps a ton also.

Goldwrap- This belt is required for 7 FPA attack with GMB + Fort, as it gives the last 10% essential IAS.

Nos Coil- This belt serves the same purpose as Goldwrap, but it has better stats. Use it if people don’t mind the 10% slow. (You can argue that BvC’s have 10% slow on Spider Sash as well)

Boots

War Travelers – Best Choice here. The 15-25 added damage actually adds a ton of damage, plus you get +STR and +VIT.

Rare FRW/FHR/stat/RES- Use theses boots if you need RES.

Gores- These are nice, but Travs are better. I advise against it because 15% DS is very little with HL + Critical Strike.

Rings

Ravenfrost- Best ring you can.. +DEX gives you tons more damage, AR helps with Jab and MS/Strafe. Mana helps support your MS spam.

AR/DEX/STR/RES Ring- Use one of these instead of a Ravenfrost if you need STR or RES or other stats.

As long as you hit all the breakpoints above, you can mix and match.

IMPORTANT: If you are going for GMB faith with Fort, you NEED to have IAS EVERYWHERE. That means 120/45 helm, 20 IAS gloves, 20 IAS ammy, and 10 IAS on belt.|||Charms

This is another place where balance plays a huge role. You want to fill your inventory with fine prefix modded charms, with either life or FRW as a second mod (mix of 3/20/20's and 3/20/5's). Get the FRW you’re looking for, then fill the rest with life charms.

I don’t recommend poison charms, as they are BM in most clan/guilds.

Example Setups

The setup for the Zon will depend greatly on whether you pick a MB or a GMB Faith, as the IAS reqs require drastically different setups. GMB setup is better for full out damage, meaning a FRW-intensive or team Zon build. A MB setup allows you much more life + DR, making you a much better tank. These setups are better for 1v1 Zons that want to tank more hits. The MB setup I list here allows for 38 DR in bow Shield/Jav and Bow switches, instead of 35%/0% like the GMB setup has.

GMB Faith Zon

120 ED/45 IAS/30 FRW Circlet

Cat’s Eye

GMB Faith

Eth Upped Titans

SS (15 Req/40 ED jewel)

Fortitude Armor

20 IAS/+2 passive/KB crafted gloves

Nos Coil belt

War Travs

Str/Dex/Res/Leach ring

Raven Frost

This is a high damage, fast running Zon that focuses on dodging attacks and long range duels. It comes equipped with 35% DR in shield switch, 7 FPA attack with bow, 9 FPA javelin throw, and 5 FPA jab. Closer to a “glass cannon” when compared with the MB build. Aim for 150-200% FRW in javelin switch.

MB Faith Zon

CoA (Ber + 40 ED/15 IAS jewel)

Highlord’s ammy

MB Faith

Eth Upped Titans

Jmod Monarch of Deflecting (4 x 40 ED/15 IAS jewels)

Fortitude Armor

20 IAS/+2 passive/KB crafted gloves

Verdungos belt

War Travs

Str/Dex/Res/Leach ring

Raven Frost

A “tank” Zon meant for high survivability at the expense of mobility and bow damage. Javelin skills will receive a boost with this setup in comparison to the GMB setup, making this Zon much better in closer quarters. This setup has 38% DR in ALL switches, 7 FPA attack with bow, 9 FPA javelin throw, and 4.5 FPA jab. Block will still be 75%, due to the high DEX of bow-based Zons. WIth this build, aim for around 125-175% FRW in javelin switch.

My current setup is 120/45/88 Life Circ, Cat's Eye, GMB Faith, Fort Archon, Eth Upped Titans, -15%/40% ED SS, 20 IAS/KB/STAT gloves, Nos Coil, Ravenfrost, Bitterband, Wartravs. It totals to 5.6k physical GA damage, 1.5k life, 325 mana, and 172 FRW in javelin switch.|||5. Tactics

General Tactics

Aim- I feel like I shouldn’t have to say this, but I see so many Zons that just fire volleys and volleys of arrows that are off by a few degrees, and just pass right past the other character. Make sure you aim. Use the minimap to check the angle of your arrows. Spray your arrows a little to cover a larger area and apply more pressure.

Prediction- Predict your enemies movements, and fire to where they will be. Arrows are a projectile, so you will never hit a moving target if you fire at where they are NOW.

Desync- Everyone knows what desync is now with so many hammerdins around. The cool thing is that Zon’s desync too. Desync is caused when the server can’t keep up with the client, so your location on the server isn’t where you really are. Basically, anything that runs quickly will desync. Zons with high FRW will desync as well, just due to the way they move. It’ll happen naturally, don’t try and desync.

Walking- This tactic basically sums up 80% of the Zon’s dueling strategy. Walking is more like running to dodge attackers that teleport right on top of you, and most chars will be offensive against you. Run a southward zigzag pattern when a caster teleports right on top of you, firing a shot every few steps while you run. If you do this right, straight projectiles will not hit, as you will move out of the way as soon as they are casted.

Switching Weapons- Whenever you feel pressure from a physical attacker, switch to your jav/shield switch. 75% blocking + dodges makes you extremely hard to hit, plus the javelin skills are no dud either. You should never really be running in bow mode, unless you’re walking a pure elemental character.

Javelin Skills- These skills are always overlooked. The entire tab is filled with one point wonders. Jab is a great attack because its uninterruptible. That means that while you’re jabbing, you can dodge, but you won’t stop jabbing. Lightning Fury/Bolt are also great attacks to use when you need to have the shield out. They do very good damage, and are both ITD, so they will always make contact. Bolt is amazing for kill Druid’s Oak Sage, and is amazing when coupled with KB. The bolt is 100% hit because it’s pure lightning damage, and triggers KB almost every hit. Fury is another great skill to use. Use it when the character has low block, either against BvC’s or charging paladins/amazons. Get used to using these skills because they seriously double the Zon’s abilities with just a few skill points.

Toggle run/walk- When you run, your block is reduced to 33% of what it used to be. When running from or into physical missile/melee attacks, consider toggling to walk so that you block the attacks if you can’t outrun them. Walking is especially useful when charging another Zon in ZvZ.|||6. Class-Specific Dueling

Sorceresses

Fireball, Lightning, and Orb:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WB3SDHomhEI

FB and Lightning Sorcs both shoot non homing attacks, so “walking” them works very well. Run south in a zig zag pattern to dodge projectiles. If they are vita Sorcs, they will fall relatively easy. Non-block ES Sorcs will be easy as well, if you have KB on your Zon. However, if they are high ES builds + block, they will have the upper hand. The high ES will absorb your damage, especially because physical damage does not drain the mana very quickly. They will tank you really badly, and eventually land a hit. But in general, just DON”T GET HIT. It doesn’t take many hits for you to die, so 1-2 is all they really need. Don’t bother with javelin skills vs. Sorcs.

Blizzard:

Blizzard Sorcs will be hard if they are built correctly. Blizz will one-hit Zons, so the duels are usually very fast. It all depends who catches who first. There are two strategies you can take vs. blizzard. The first one is to keep moving, using desync to help keep blizzards off of you. Predict the Sorc’s teleports and fire GA/MS. MS will be good to help catch, then follow up with GA. The second strat is to load up on minions, that means casting a decoy and a Valk, and utilize strafe. Strafe will auto target the sorc, and will lock the sorc right away. However, if the blizz lands on you, you will die. It’s a gamble, but it gives you the best chance vs. blizzard sorcs that stack oak.

Necromancers

Bone:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68UynO-POFw

Necromancers are very hard for amazons. Again, the basic idea is just to use the “walking” strategy. However, you will have to run a little bit more between the shots, as the necro can fire spirit, which will follow you. Block Necs are quite possibly the hardest duel for a zon, but vita ones are much easier. If the Nec uses bone prison, you will have to the same walking strategy, but using a lot of MS (in addition to GA). The MS will pierce the prisons and destroy them, while still hitting the necro. If you are constantly fire MS along with the GA, the prisons will really have no effect on you, besides forcing you to use MS and lowering your damage.

Summon (with or without poison nova):

These necs will be very annoying to duel, but their damage is very low so its still not that bad of a duel. You’ll have to use MS instead of GA here, as GA will be attracted to the minions and will be prone to miss due to minion stacking. Otherwise, use the same strategies as vs. bone necros.

Druids

Wind:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CC2hm16Eys4

Wind druids are like dueling necros, but much easier because their attacks are much slower and don’t home. Basically, to fight a druid, you utilize the “walking” tactic, but you have a sequence of attacks. When the druid comes after you, walk + MS until the druid gets a lock and begins to chain. When that happens, keep running, switch to shield/jav, and throw lightning bolt. Oak is immune to physical in NM, but will die in one bolt. With pierce, the bolt also has a chance to destroy all of the minions in one shot. Keep running while you throw. Once you see the minions thin out, switch to bow and “walk” with GA. Just practice this, but it’ll work. Again, following a similar trend, block druids will be much harder than non-block druids.

Fire Elemental:

Um, just shoot. Use MS to catch them before they are on your screen so you can unleash GA on them before they fire.

Melee:

Against all non-WW melee characters, you want to use the same basic strategy. Fire GA until they are close, then switch to shield/jav and throw lightning fury. Don’t bother doing a zigzag, as there are no projectiles to dodge. Just run in one direction and throw back at them.

Amazons

Bow:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94goS-cPBKY

ZvZ. There are a lot of different styles of ZvZ. I myself am offensive. In bow vs. bow, basically it’s just who can shoot and dodge better. However, when you have a javelin/shield switch, it gets much more interesting. You are able to charge at the other zon and try and jab. Jab beats a shooting Zon hands down if you can close the distance.

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jxMseywaZ4U

But, lightning fury/bolt will beat jab (using bolt goes right through the shield, as its 100% elemental and will trigger a lot of dodge/stun lock, but the damage will be much less than fury if the zon has res [85% with fort]). On top of that, bow will beat fury (by doing the walking strategy, like vs. necro spear sequence in the beginning of the necro video). ZvZ is kind of a rock, paper, scissors kind type of duel; its just who can switch and react faster. Again, like all other same-class duels, it just takes practice and figuring out your own style.

Javazons:

Shoot, and don’t stop shooting. Make sure they don’t get to you, or you’re pretty much dead. If they get too close, you can start to strafe, and block/dodge lock the javazon. If the javazon is a FC/CS, don’t let them onto your screen or you’ll die. Your best bet is just to use predictive firing and hope to dodge/block/stun lock the javazon before she is able to FC you.

Paladins

Hammerdins:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6MTXbgGYkTo

Bow amazons are one of the few classes that outright beat a hammerdin. If you keep moving and firing midrange GA, the hammerdin will have a very hard time. Just keep it up, but don’t get cocky and stop moving to get the kill. Predict where the paladin will be, shoot there, and make a mental note of where you think the hammers are.

Liberators:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uc1M9j9C_zU

These are hammerdins with a charge weapon. Treat them just like a hammerdin, but switch to javelin when you feel them charging. As long as you have shield/javelin up, you should be relatively safe from charge. Hammers won't hit if you keep moving and dodge. Bow should be your secondary switch here; use it when you aren't in danger of being hit by charge as that is your greatest threat.

Mages:

Same strategy as with hammerdin. However, you’ll have to be much more offensive. FoH will beat a Zon, so you need to keep arrows on them to keep them from getting a FoH off. Have Valks and a decoy out.

Charge/Smiters:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mRzSiYAGWIk

Grief makes paladins charge/smite really strong. Zons have a very hard time with these types of paladins. Use the same strategy as you do against all non-WW melee characters. GA when far away, LF/LB when close. Just keep running to keep them from landing a smite.

V/T’s:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ElRCaLrTZA

Use the same strategy as vs. Charge/Smiters, as the V\T will probably use only those skills. Cast a decoy and Valk when there is no pressure to attract the FoH if the V\T casts one. Try and stay within your decoy/valk to attract the foh, and switch to javelin when the paladin charges. Pull out the bow only when you know you won't get hit by charge or smite. Bow is great vs a V\T trying to FoH, but bad vs one charging. Javelin is good for charging V\T's, but bad against FoH'ing ones. Just make sure you know which switch to use during what situations, and you'll give them a very good fight.

Zealots- Same as Charge/Smiter.

Assassins

Trappers:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhLlak9D68c

Trappers are hard, but Zons are decent against them. Shoot MS while they close the distance, and GA once the shadow is gone or is far away from the trapper. Run as soon as you see a trap get casted. You can pelt the trapper with a few shots right after they teleport on you and recast traps, as they will have to stop casting MB for a brief second while they cast teleport/traps instead. Since traps take a while to start firing, you'll have time to get a few shots in. Just rinse and repeat. Fort will make this much easier. Use your desync to your advantage and keep running in one direction. Use the KB from MB to help you dodge trap shots by running at an angle (run away from the trapper in a slight spiral pattern) such that the MB + running will dodge the trap shots + get you out of range fastest.

Ghosts:

Being a ghost player, I can truthfully say that Ghosts > Amazons. The best bet here is just to MS while they are closing, and then switch to shield/jav as soon as they come on screen. Start running to dodge the WW, and side step it. Throw in a few arrows after you sidestep, and then keep running again. But, with the combo of teleport and shadow and MB and WW, don’t expect to win these with any sort of winning percentage.

Bomber:

Duel these like you would a Lightning trapper. These will be easier though, because the FCR is bad and the WoF moves slower. Run in a straight line away from the bomber here since WoF won’t be able to catch you then. Running directly away from the trapper will also make the MB KB help you get further away.

Barbs

WW:

Video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LcCiBch9qkg

These are extremely tough. It’ll take a lot of practice to get decent, and even then, you can’t expect to win over them in a series. Again, MS + GA while they close in, but as soon as they get close, switch to shield and start running. As soon as you see them teleport, switch directions. Try and run in a direction away from the barbs following WW. (A good way to run towards a barb is actually right at it when it teles, as the following WW is usually following the same direction as the tele.) When you do this, you side step the baba as quickly as possible, making distance and allowing you to fire a few arrows. Make sure you stay as much in shield mode as you can. You should really be running 100% of the time in shield mode, only switching to bow to fire. Each baba will be different due to the FCR and FHR they have. When you have KB on your zon, after you sidestep the baba, you may be able to stunlock the barb and keep them from teleporting back on you if their FCR is lower than the 69%. Just hold down GA on them after you side step them if you can stunlock them; otherwise, start running and prepare to sidestep them again. One last point: if the baba is WW straight at you or you feel a lot of pressure, switch to shield and throw LF. It’ll hurt a lot and the shield will give you good protection. LF + KB also has the ability to stun lock. You’ll just have to mess around with it and try different things out.

Team Dueling

Zons are amazing in team duels. They have the highest damage output of all the characters, plus the arrows travel far and quickly. If you are a zon on a team, you need to be their center point. Have them protect and support you. Spam GA and MS at the opposing team, and pick up any leap/MB locks. Use MS to keep charging characters away. If you see another player getting attacked, shoot MS in that direction. It’s a huge deterrent for the opposing team, as MS will kill all the minions and block/stun lock the players it catches. Its area of effect is also huge. Make sure the necro amps if you have one. A zon centered team is arguably one of the strongest teams you can have in PvP.|||7. Special Thanks

hi tienjE|||Smexy guide

However you got a strat for vs. auradins?

Also what do you think of slow missle vs. sorcs/bonenecs/zons?

Have you tried a lacerator switch vs. characters you don't need javs for?

What about CtA buffing from a cube in your inventory?

Really? No poison charms? I find that in certain circumstances they can be extremely helpful. Esp. vs ES sorcies etc. At least having a few high dmg psn charms makes the other char try to get 75% psn res.

Do you have a method for characters that flash holy freeze?

Sorry for all these questions but I am intensely curious.

And by the way this is kind of a seperate question, but the physical damage that is converted to lightning by lightning bolt, is this damage multiplied in anyway by +% facets? Or is only the skill damage enhanced...|||so what are skill dmg's for this set-up?

Whats up with my lightning javazon?

[:1]Well apparently i can't solo act 4 hell with it. Heres my stats:

EDIT: Removed the potions (sorry)

EDIT 2: A bit more cleanup|||What part of act 4 hell is giving you trouble? is this single player bnet or what? Need a little more detail on what exactly is giving you trouble, could be how your playing could be running into a tough mob group could be that your on players 8 instead of players 1...unfortunately without knowing more about the situation its hard to say what is or isn't the issue...|||Mostly a lack of +skills. Get an amulet that isn't terrible, java gloves and Razortail for the pierce. Aldur boots are cheap and has nice fire res. 72 is also fairly low for act 4 H, levelling a bit will boost your CS through synergies and also mean you'll get hit less.

Also, don't just dump your whole readout. Remove the potions and items with relatively fixed stats.|||Players 1, mobs before diablo. They are like too tought. I'm playing solo, but sometimes i call a friend and play in TCP/IP. It's on /players 1 unless it's bugged and it is on /players 8 for some reason. I let my valkyrie and merc tank, but they die too fast. I use the slow arrows too, however it's like i don't to any damage. The character was made for cow running mainly, however i can't get to there. Should i reset to a leveling build of some sorts and reset again for the cows or?

EDIT: What do you mean by java gloves?

EDIT: Got The Eye of the Eltrich (or something) amy for the +1 skills. I got no better gloves atm (except magnus' gloves) and i gave my razortail to my friend's bowazon.|||Gloves with +2 to jav and spear skills (you can get +3 on magic items). Nice mods to have on it are 10 or 20 IAS, leech, res and stats. You could gamble for them but I'm not sure how long that will take. +2 java amulet and gloves without any other mods should be pretty cheap in the SPF if you can trade there.

A bit of IAS would also help a lot, perhaps you could try Treachery. You can activate its Fade by standing in the flames near the river of flame waypoint.|||K thanks for the help. I'll search for it.|||I know i have trouble alot of time on single player where it will default to players 8 so every time i start a game i will set it to the players setting i want even if that is 8...also can do some hell and nightmare andy and meph runs to try and get some better gear...rune runs are also an idea to try and get some mid lvl rune words...not sure what runewords work on single player and which don't...i know i have issues trying to get some of them to work sometimes...but since i don't have internets at my house i don't know if i am messing them up or what...|||Get RWM. It enables all the runewords.

Spec help please!

[:1]Hello I am working on building an untwinked SP Amazon.

I was working on building towards a lightning javazon but after thinking long and hard about how to deal with PI's without uber gear I had another look.

I was thinking that if i maxed lightning fury as a strong lightning attack then used max freezing anrrow with cold arrow synergy i could kill comfortably in hell if i took it nice and slow. With alot of points to spare i could have a very strong synergized valk it might just work.

Before i commit myself too much i would like some feedback

ANy feedback is welcome exept somthing reccomending i get a stormshield, and wildwitch string THIS WILL BE UNTWINKED!|||Not sure what feedback you're looking for, but if you're wondering if the build is viable untwinked, then yes.

Fishyzon Guide|||Lightning and FA hybrid build is viable. You will find a few Lightning and cold immunes. If you cannot get around them you'll have to plink them with something like strafe.|||thanks, its good to know that this will work.

I really wanted tohave a very strong valk after reading superdaves passive run.

Freezing arrow and lightning fury lookied like the best way to achieve dual elements without many skill points.

EDIT" by the way what merc would be best to use?

i was thinking defiance or might but anything could be interesting.|||I think you'd usually go might for added leach, at least that's what I did on my fishy. When most enemies are almost instantly electrocuted to death, or frozen solid, I can't see much point in going defiance to be honest.

need some advice trying to beat diablo with an amazon

[:1]Hi guys, my amazon is currently level 25 and is in act 1 nightmare.

I'm so weak at the moment and cant seem to move forward. My friend named 'cuminme' wtf?, is a sorceress. From Act 3 he just teleported on his ****ty sorc b/c hes lazy as **** and we killed the bosses.

Yeah, he maxed ice shield and hes like ' im the best tank' so useless omg, he just stands around baal and dies then comes on his ****ty 76 necro n still struggles to kill baal. lol

My skills are currently in ice arrow and arrow and my gear is with low rune words such as stealth, nadir and zephyr.

Anyone have any tips for respec on my current build, ill take anything at the moment that will work.

thanks alot|||At lvl 25, you shouldn't be in Nightmare. Go back to act 4 or 5. You can (and should) level up until your mid 30s-40. For builds, check the guide thread stickied up top. The Fishyzon guide is a pretty good build and can beat the game with mediocre gear. You can also do a strafer. The Harmony runeword for bows is cheap and does decent damage, along with the Witchwild String bow.

I would respec as a Lightning Fury/Charged Strike Amazon. You can go through Normal and Nightmare with those skills and a set of cracked javelins. LF kills groups of enemies, CS kills bosses. In Hell you will need a backup skill though to deal with immunes unless you have an Infinity.

PvM Multizon advice

[:1]Hey guys,

Zons are my favorite character, but since I came back to the game after a long break, I couldnt really afford to make a decent bowazon until now.

Ok, this came out rather long, so I'll bold the main questions

A lot of the great guides here are from several years ago, and there have been some changes (like no IM, fixed the Marrowalk bug etc). So I need some advice on which gear to use and which skills to max.

First of all, she's gonna be purely PvM. I dont duel, and wouldnt be able to afford the crazy items anyway.

I'm set on using Multishot, I want her to be a physical damage lawnmower

So I'll need knockback from someplace as well.

Basically I need answers on three issues:

1. Which bow?

Seems like there are four options:

Faith GMB

Faith MB

Windforce

Brand

If windforce requires a Faith merc, I think I'd rather pass. If I need to spend the runes on a Faith, I'd prefer using it myself. Although an act 1 Merc would be a nice change from the A2 guys.

Brand seems really nice on paper, but I've never tried it, and it doesnt have IAS either. But the mods on it are just sick. CS with ITD Knockback huge ar etc..

Basically, is there an alternative to Faith which is good? Or is it hands down the best? If so, then is the extra IAS needed worth it for a GMB?

Also the conc/fana/might combo from a pride merc seems super cool. Btw how does the merc do without ED on his polearm? do the auras make up for it?

2. PI's

I'd like to be as pure multi as possible. But I've seen most guides limit multi to 14 points. Is it worth it to put a point in strafe, for the tight packs around corners etc, and for Bosses?

Also I'll need a backup for the PI's. I'd like to stay away from FA, even though I know its good, cause it need +skills to really shine. Unless I use an Ice bow on switch, but that's getting really expensive

Also Javelins are out, I have a Javazon and I love her, no reason to compete with her

So basically something of the Magical/Guided arrow type? Any input here is welcome.

3. Passive tree

Building my Javazon made me realise how well an Ama can do without most of this tree. No points in D/A/E freed up so many points for other skills, and I hate that damned animation.

I'm not planning on getting hit too often, with Knockback and all, but I'm worried about archer packs. What do you think?

Also, is a Valk required? I do well with Decoy alone, but if I go with a pride merc, maybe the three auras will really buffen her up.

Last, how important is AR? with brand I have ITD, which covers most of the cases, with Faith and the multiple auras, I should have high ar anyway.

Do points in penetrate help this kind of build?

Gear that I was planning on using (more or less):

Mavina's diadem (some IAS jewel) [I dig the no-helm look, if I need less Ias I can opt for kiras]

Fortitude

Raven

Rare Dual leech ring

Razortail (any reason to use Nos coil instead?)

War travs/Gores (I like gores, but need input on this)

Cats eye (how about atmas? how much does it help?)

LoH (Unless no Kb from the bow, and then I need crafted gloves...)

Max/ar charms if I can spare the cash for them

Any kind of input is appreciated, either specifically to what I asked, or links to some up-to-date guides.

No point in suggesting totally different builds, as I'm perfectly aware of the great options that Amazons offer I want to try a Multi one. Although if points in Strafe are recommended I'm not ruling it out.

P.S. Mainly looked at this guide for inspiration

Thanks a bunch!|||Cat's Eye is more of a wonder for a strafer. Multishot has limitations with % cast on strike.

You could give wraith bow a try, good for PIs. It's better for strafe, but works well with plenty of ias gear like treachery. It LUVS a giant skull fixed with ias jewels.

Also, just stick with war travelers. Gores is kinda useless as zons already have critical strike and CB sucks. I would try to always stick with LOH also. That 350% damage to demons is a godsend.|||I like my pure Bowazon with Windforce with might/pride mercenary.

Huge damage And I kill all PI's with Magic arrow. I use a valk too, and since you don't put point into passives, you could up her pretty nicely. Try to get at least a 17 valk (she gets her best weapon).

LOH is a beast for fast chaos cleaning, can't pass on it.

You better use Travs over gores.

I like atma to fasten some damn PI's if I strafe a lot and there's one PI's, instead of cleaning then kill it with Magic Arrow.|||Quote:

Cat's eye doesnt have any %to cast. maybe you meant Highlords?

Wont the CB on gores help a lot on bosses and PI's?

I like my pure Bowazon with Windforce with might/pride mercenary.

I like atma to fasten some damn PI's if I strafe a lot and there's one PI's, instead of cleaning then kill it with Magic Arrow.

With a pride merc and a windforce, what IAS bp are you hitting?

Do yo use atma's constantly, or put it on just for PI's?|||WF 20% + sheal 20%

M'avinas 30% + 15% jewel

LOH 20%

105% for 9 frame. (90% required)

And switch Atma if you strafe for 125% (120% required) with cat's eye or Highlord.

But if you don't strafe at all (mine is a strafer, multishot with +skills is fine enough IMO) you could choose something else to socket the helm to stay at 90%.|||148% ias for 8 fpa is also pretty easy to get with wf, and a very cheap setup(andy ias,wf ias/shael,hl,loh,treachery)|||If you dont go with a Faith bow, and choose WF, why not go for Brand? It can be made in a faster bow, making reaching the last bp easier, it has ITD and Knockback among other mods. Is the WF damage significantly higher?

If so, besides the costs, why choose WF over Faith?|||brand cant hit crap for breaks, it has no IAS.

pretty easy meaning you need ias on just about every single piece of equipment? |||Sounds like I'm gonna stick with a Faith. I've heard a lot of bad-mouthing on Faith in Mat. bows. Are GMB the obvious better choice, or is this still up to discussion?|||personally, i prefer mat except when using strafe since strafe's breaks are laughable when compared to multi/GA/FA. there's some debate on pvp zons for mat vs GMB, the main crux of the debate being max damage vs flexibility of gear.
