[:1]All,
I am sure I am the only one on this sub forum who feels this way, seeing as this is the Amazon forum and all. But the Amazon skills that I have always loved are the terrible ones.
My favorite skills, in terms of the concept and/or the animations, are: Fend, Magic Arrow, Guided Arrow, Explosive Arrow, and Immolation Arrow. And yet apparently these are the really crappy skills for Amazons. I also think Daggerzons are cool.
But I find it eternally frustrating that the Amazon skills I like are crap and/or pointless to max, and the ones I generally hate (Strafe, Freezing Arrow, Lightning Fury) are the go-to skills for the class. I also find sinking points into the Valkyrie to be sort of tedious, as well as some of the passives, though I see the value.
Are there any other hidden gems in the Amazon tree? Can one make a viable hell-capable Amazon that does NOT use Strafe, Freezing Arrow, Lightning Fury and Multi-shot? I actually find Multi-shot to be ... boring but it doesn't irritate me. But I guess what I'm wondering is, are there any hell capable builds that dont use the skills that bore me or irritate me?
Oh well. I've got a Fire/Shock Bow Paladin I'm working on who meets some of my desires to set things on fire with a bow. But I'd love to know about any hidden gems in the Amazon tree that I'm overlooking.
Thanks!|||Pvm? use charged strike -- the most overpowered skill in the game, can reach ~ 200k light dmg per hit.|||Well the skill planner says it only does about 2k and that is with all the synergies maxed and +5 skills. Unless I'm confused.
I think what I might do is simply make an amazon using an underpowered skill combo and simply enjoy it, let it stall when it stalls, and call it done. I would love to do an amazon with:
20 Fire Arrow
20 Explosive Arrow
20 Guided Arrow
20 Valkyrie
1 in each passive (and Razortail for a belt)
To me that' simply be fun. I know that maxing Guided only adds 95% damage. *Sniff* ... but I like maxing the skills I use.
I also kinda want to make a Magic Arrow 20 character.
Anyway, I appreciate any replies. Though I'm not really sure what replies I'm looking for.
Thanks!|||Quote:

2k per bolt released. That is, 16k to a target large enough to suck up all the bolts, 8k average. With +5 skills and no facets. A CS zon with pretty inexpensive gear does more like 5k & 9 bolts: 22.5k damage average at an easy 9 frames per attack. Very good/pvp/professional dclone killer gear can do far far more damage.
A jabber zon would be neat with good enough gear.|||I have made both a Guided Arrow Zon and a Magic Arrow Zon and have loved playing them. In particular, Magic Arrow is an under-rated skill -if it were not available on Witchwild String at Level 21 I think it would get more attention. Both a GA zon and an MA zon feel like a "stripped down bowazon" in gameplay.
Magic Arrow is like strafe -it needs the most physical damage you can get on a bow -for me that was a Goldstrike Arch, because I have never found a Windforce -and I don't use rune word mod (I am a single player). IAS is important, of course. Put as much as you can into Dex, and max out MA, Valk and go as high as is prudent in CS, Pierce and penetrate. Sprinkle a couple of points in DAE, look for + skills items to increase the level of magic arrow, IAS modifiers and use a Might Merc. I kept a Skystrike on switch to help out with PIs. Very simple to play -but I really enjoyed my magic arrowzon. Unfortunately, she did bog down in A4 Hell. Concentrating on as much on-bow physical damage and +min/max Damage as possible is the key to getting her through Hell difficulty.
With Guided Arrow, there is no investment in Penetrate or Pierce, creating a surplus of skill points. So people tend to drift away from the concept of a pure Guided Arrow-zon and invest in an elemental damage skill. Inevitably, the GA skill becomes secondary to the elemental damage skills.
I have tried a pure GA-zon, maxing GA, and all other points in passive skills (Valk, CS, DAE, Decoy). PIs are handled by using a bow (perhaps on switch) with elemental damage (Kuko, Skystrike or a six socket bow with PGEMs or runes). IAS is critical to a GA-zon and knockback is an attribute worth considering. GA is quite underpowered, though, so you really need to get creative with your equipment and with switching bows for different monsters.
Other skills. I like the Poison and Plague Javelin skills as a tandem (they are synergies for each other). They are Area-of Effect skills and far more powerful than MA and GA, but require the investment of 30-40 skill points to be effective in the end game -and your zon will still need a second type of damage to deal with Poison Immunes. (loading elemental damage on your javelin is not an effective strategy.) But these skills are worth considering.
Have fun!|||Check out the build guide sticky. There are several builds in there that may interest you. The guys who answered your post are correct about Charged Strike. Check Jek's Lightning guide for some math and other interesting posts on lightning skills. Some of it may seem a little dated but I do not recall any new nerfs to any lightning skills in the past couple of years.|||Thanks for the replies everyone!|||Checkout flayed one's Melee Amazon's guide if you like the fend skill, I played one this ladder who didnt have any problem soloing the entire game, also tried some bertristram and managed to get a couple of torches using this build, not as efficent as a smiter though.|||Cool. As a single player mode kind of guy, I've never even concerned myself with what the ubers are or how to do them or what those torches are about that I hear people mentioning. I assume they can't be soloed, so I don't worry about it.
But maybe I'll re-visit Fend. I swore I read it was severely bugged.|||Yes, it's bugged, but if you don't put points in dodge, avoid and evade the bug don't come in to play.
